Documenting the little things

Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about children. I think they are seriously amazing. By far the coolest members of our society. So full of life, love, trust, confidence, freedom. What could be better?! I think capturing the little details of our children is critically important. Obviously the medium I usually choose is the photograph. That's a personal preference. Whatever your favorite way is, make sure you're doing it. Documenting who these amazing people are. Documenting what they love. What they said that made you laugh this morning. What they love the most right now. What little quirkc they have. You get the idea, capture it, capture it while you can. They are growing and changing every single day and every day with them is a gift, cherish it and let them know how much you love them, how amazing they are. They deserve to hear it.

This image is a few weeks old, and it's a repeat for many of my online photo sharing friends, but it goes well with what I'm trying to say tonight. This is my twelve year old daughter. She really is like sunshine for my soul. The reason I love this image is because it captures the way she tucks her hair behind her ear when she has it pulled back. It's a simple, subtle thing that she does without thinking about it, while in the midst of conversation, but it's a very real part of who she is on a day to day basis right now. And I never want to forget. Thanks for letting me ramble! Go capture something that you cherish about your child. :)

hmm...I love it too. :) And gosh, I could have written what you wrote. I am so so sentimental about every tiny moment, and I loved hearing you put that into words. :)

i am getting all teary-eyed reading this, jen.... i love what you've written and how sentimental you are about the little things that, when you get right down to it, really ARE the big things after all. :)
